formation

To do life together, to leave no stones of our souls unturned, and to explore and practice our calling and gifting together.

Paul writes in Galatians 4:19, “My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you…” The core and focus of the formation component is seeing the Lord Jesus formed in us, that we would experience the transformation that comes from walking with him in relationship and mission.

The formation component is comprised
of three main aspects:

Spiritual Formation Huddles:

Huddles are structured around the 5-Fold Ministry of the church, as defined in Ephesians 4 and modeled by Jesus. Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-12 (NLT)

This 5-Fold emphasis is overlaid with an approach of KNOW-BE-DO, also modeled by Jesus as he walked with his disciples. For example: What does the Lord want you to know about Prophetic ministry? How does the Lord want you to be a prophetic person, or a person of his voice? What does the Lord want you to be able to do?

Huddles are led by a discipler and include 1 to 7 students.

Spiritual Direction:

Direction is a practice that is rooted in the ancient church. It is not discipleship, mentoring or counseling, but more like companionship. The Holy Spirit is the true director, so together the participant and the director seek to recognize, discern and respond to his work in the directee’s life.

In the first year of the program, students will engage in six sessions of Spiritual Direction. An additional six sessions will be available for students in year two at their own expense.

Formation Retreat:

This retreat will be attended by both students and their Spiritual Directors. It will be a weekend away, emphasizing aspects of contemplative spirituality, including practices like silence and solitude or Ignatian spiritual exercises, among others.
